JESUS AND PANCHO
We are lucky to know Jesús and Pancho since they opened their beautiful store @casaprotea where we have also done natural cosmetics workshops. They have been using Mamita for more than three years and cannot imagine their care routine without them.
We are Jesús and Pancho, two lovers of plants and founders of Casa Protea Plant Collectors Studio, our studio store located in Barcelona. We met in Santiago de Chile where we lived before coming to Barcelona and founding Casa Protea in 2017. At that time Jesús was working in the world of contemporary art and Pancho in architecture. We are 37 and 33 years old and we live with our cat Curry in the Gracia neighborhood, where the studio is also located.
WHAT IS YOUR DAY TO DAY LIKE?
Our day starts early, around 7 in the morning. The first thing we do is take a quick shower and eat breakfast. Almost always accompanied by a coffee for Pancho and tea for Jesús. As much as possible we try to practice yoga in the morning three times a week before breakfast, but it is not always possible so there are days when we must move our practice to the end of the day. These help us think clearly and be prepared for everyday life. Then we get going and our routines are quite varied, from answering emails, going to nurseries, devising projects or watering plants.
We open the studio at 11:30 and the first thing we always do is put on some music and check that all the plants are happy . Mondays are generally for going to the nurseries. We love taking the van and going on the road looking for places where we can find new and unique specimens, it's our favorite part!
WHERE DOES YOUR INTEREST IN BOTANY COME FROM?
Although our training (artist and architect) seems to be very far from the plant world, we both have a common heritage: the passion of our grandmothers, avid gardeners and collectors of the most diverse species. Thanks to them we understood the long and extraordinary trajectory of the growth of a cactus, from its seed to its flowering, or the importance of cuttings to propagate.
WHAT DO YOU THINK MAKES YOU DIFFERENT FROM OTHER PLANT STORES?
We believe that above all it is the selection of species we have and the passion for sharing our love for plants . From there, for example, “Por la patilla” was born, a party for exchanging cuttings, plants and seeds that we celebrate once a year in spring.
YOU HAVE ALREADY WRITTEN A BOOK! WHAT WAS THAT EXPERIENCE LIKE?
The truth is that the theme of the book “He loves me, he doesn't love me. Guide to not killing your plants either from love or from grief” came as a surprise but made us very excited. It was nine months of hard work, but it was a super enriching time for both of us. Quite a birth! It has been a year since its publication and we are very happy with the reception it has had, the first edition is already almost sold out.
HOW DO YOU LIKE TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR SKIN? WHAT ROUTINES DO YOU FOLLOW?
We have very different skins, Pancho has more oily and sensitive skin and Jesús much less.
Jesús washes his face with cold water and little else, but every day he applies Revitalizing Oil to his hair and beard, which helps prevent flaking.
For his part, Pancho cannot live without the Purifying Elixir and the Super Linda cream, those are his best allies for rosacea and the oily tendency of his skin.
Occasionally we also like to use the Facial Scrub and prepare some masks with the Powdered Cleanser simply mixed with rose water. We have been using Mamita products for more than three years and frankly we cannot imagine our care routine without them. Even if we are only going to be away from home for a couple of days, the Revitalizing Oil and the Super Cute cream are never missing from our toiletry bag.
WHAT DOES MOMMY CONTRIBUTE TO YOUR SKIN CARE?
Since using Mamita our skin looks less blemished and fresher. It is noted that the composition is zero aggressive and respectful even for the most sensitive skin.
Jesús, who always wears a longer beard, thanks to the oil, his skin does not become irritated and his hair has much more shine and strength.
Pancho has achieved more uniform skin and rosacea is very controlled.
In addition, the smell of the entire range is wonderful , you can notice the natural base of all the products. We are happier than ever with our skins.
